Memos from the Middle

Smack-Dab in the Middle of Living

Confusion

I took my darkness
into the shadows,
and I lingered there a while.
Forgetting myself
and becoming swallowed in sorrow,
I was solaced in silence.
Wandering in circles
with no direction,
a controlled liberation
of feeling
encased my spirit,
and I was stuck,
ensnared in a web of freedom
too new to comprehend.
The oppressiveness of novelty
binds me to the search,
and I wonder if it’s worth
rejoining the light.

  1. have you thought about doing a book using your blog entries. I think it would do pretty well

Marilyn, you write the most beautiful poetry! There is always darkness before the dawn. Soon, confusion will turn into enlightenment. Remember, how it was our first year of teaching?

  3. Beautifully written.

  4. Today has been that kind of day for me: ironic and confusing.

  5. Wow. I love the irony of this piece.
